No doubt you have already heard. Left 4 Dead 2 is banned in Australia. And all because we don't have an R 18+ rating for video games.
This is disasterous news for many gamers, as the original game was hugely popular. It is also disappointing for Australian retailers who will now not see predicted sales. And of course, Valve are let down because their baby won't be widely played here Down Under. Apparently the ban is a result of the 'high-impact violence', the use of melee weapons and the fact that the Infected are technically still human being key offenders.
The topic is heated and there is a lot of opinion on it. The best thing is to spread the word. If you want to complain, send an e-mail to enquiries@classification.gov.au. If the R18+ debate interests you, find out more about exactly why this absurd ruling still exsists in Australia. I'd suggest sending a letter (an RL one) to your local member of parliament.
So far Left 4 Dead 2 stands alongside Risen and Necrovision as games refused classifcation by the Office of Film and Literature Classification, though the latter game has been censored to fit an MA 15+ rating.

the thing is we have a r18 game rating over here so therefore can buy it from shops etc. |

Not really, Daniel. Because if its Region blocked via steam, as suggested, then it most likely will not be available to NZ steam users either, due to the fact that Valve puts both nations in the same region. heh. |

after taking some careful re-thought on this situation. i decided that i shouldn't be thinking about this situation at all, seeing as i never played L4D and most likely will not play the second one. Although i do agree with Sarab on his point on a time-lagging classifications bureau, and it is getting slightly out of hand. The governments going to have their hands full with complaints on this one, because sadly, this time they've affected an audience who is most likely to complain, especially via email. heh. |

i have already ranted on multiple forums so i will just say this....
when these 50+ year backwards thinking inconsitant classification board members start getting their face smashed in by a charger (in the inevitable zombie apocolypse) all their grankids will say is "sorry PA, left for dead 2 was banned in australia....i dont know what to do " |

i suppose we could always just hope for a repeat of the FEAR2 fisaco, considering in its case it got denied first time, and on its second attempt got through with NO editing =\

Unfortunately, if it's banned in Australia, it will most likely be region restricted through Steam. |
