With an incredible history of games such as that of PopCap's, Plants Vs Zombies looks to be another classic to add to the list; but does it really meet expectations?
Either way that you look at it, when you combine Plants and Zombies, you're bound to have some interesting results. Simply loading the menu for the first time gives you a glimpse into what you can expect.

Enough of the menu though, let's get into the game!
Similar to that of a tower defence, the aim of Plants vs Zombies is to fend off brain-hungry zombies by planting a variety of different functioning plants - ranging from peashooters to exploding cherries. Currency is collected by picking up sunlight or using sunflowers (haha get it?) to generate sunlight.
| Each plant has it's own use and seperate appearance |
Whilst you have an array of different plants to pick from, so do the zombies. Bobsleds, football players, bucket-wearing civilians, you name it - they'll be sent wave after wave at your defenceless house in progression. However, each zombie has a different weakness, making the game a lot more strategic than you might originally think.
For example: Catapults -> Spikes, Bucket-wearing zombies -> Magnets, Pole-vaulting zombies -> High walls

The graphics of the game are easily recognised as that of PopCap's. Smooth animations and crisp cartoon styles. Whilst the game genre may be depicted as quite a dark theme (ie zombies), it still manages to maintain a bright and cheerful atmosphere throughout, with aid from the vibrant graphics and perky sound track.
Overall, Plants Vs Zombies is a very entertaining game and surprisingly addictive for the mere price of $10.00 US from Steam or $30.00 AUD from the official website. PopCap have done it once again - setting the benchmark for the game's genre and creating a unique, fun-lasting game.
